Event campgrounds and the RV parks around them fill early and price accordingly. A national forest forty minutes out does not. Search 107 events and 42 year-round places by type, month and state, then see the quiet federal campgrounds within driving distance.

This list is put together by hand, so it is only as good as what we know about. If there is a race, rally, fair or festival worth camping near, tell us and we will look it up and add it.
The timing shown is a rule, not a date. “First Saturday in May”, not a specific day — because exact dates move every year and a wrong one here would send you on a long drive for nothing. Confirm on the event's official site.
This is a hand-picked list, not a complete one. There is no public dataset of US events, so these are well-known recurring ones we could place confidently. Missing something worth adding? Tell us and it goes in.
Campgrounds are federal only — national forests, Corps of Engineers, BLM — which is exactly why they are quieter than the event RV park, and also why big-city events have few nearby. State parks and private campgrounds are not in this data. Book early regardless: everything within range of a large event fills up too.
